SCALES

Scales is a short autofiction film that blends memory, fantasy, and performed
fragments to explore a distinctly feminine experience shaped by trauma and desire.
Shot during a journey through California, the film draws on the filmmaker’s own
video archive and reflects on cultural imagery through poetic logic and a fragmented narrative.
Moving between the Imaginary, the Symbolic, and the Real, the film navigates unconscious
processes through image, text, and sound, with an electroacoustic score carrying emotional
and psychic tension beyond the visible.
Referencing 1990s B-movies, avant-garde silent cinema, and Ukrainian poetic film,
Scales traces a heroine’s movement through a loop of traumatic repetition—seeking
not closure, but a way to reclaim gaze and agency through pleasure and formal experimentation.
