The research in the People's Museum of History of the Dnipro Metallurgical Plant resulted in the series of images and installation dedicated to the antique book «Stay Of His Imperial Majesty The Sovereign Emperor At The Alexander South-Russian Plant Of Bryansk On January 31, 1915», which was produced to mark the Nicholas II visit of the plant. The work critically revises the history production and reveals invisible workers' lives.
The book grasps interest with a selection of photos and descriptions of different parts of the plant. In the photos one can often see the workers, but the captions indicate only the names of the workshops and equipment. The text of the book tells about the Emperor’s visit to various parts of the plant. It creates an impression that the plant, in the enlightened gaze of the Emperor, is revealing the secrets of the production to the viewer.
At that time, the Russian Empire took part in the First World War when a powerful labor movement was forming all over the country. Workers of the Bryansk plant actively participated in revolutionary processes, held rallies and strikes. They met the news of the beginning of the war with hostility. In 1914-1915 protests with anti-war slogans took place in the city of Katerynoslav. At the same time, the Bryansk plant produced goods for military purposes.
In this work, I turn to the method of working with books, which I have already done in my practice. It is based on the repetition of the image of what I see in the book. Here, I chose to transform the illustrations from the book, and thus pay attention to the facts that are deliberately omitted in the book and museum coverage of the Emperor's visit. I bring up the cases of safety violations at work, police violence, rallies of workers. Following attempts to negotiate with the museum, I was not allowed to exhibit the book. In the showcase, next to the missing book, there is a photo of this same book in the exhibition in Dnipro that was dedicated to the First World War — in 2014, the year when the current war in Ukraine started. That 2014 show took place in Yavornytsky Museum of History of Dnipro. I also added a caption to the photo from the official Facebook page of the museum, which is where I discovered it.

виробництво історії та розкриває невидиме життя робітників.
Книга цікава
підборкою фотографій
та описом різних частин заводу. На фотографіях часто можна
побачити робітників, але підписи вказують лише на назви цехів та обладнання. У
тексті книги мова іде про відвідання Государем різних частин заводу. З тексту
складається враження, ніби завод, в осяяні погляду імператора, розкриває
таємниці виробництва читачеві.

Російська імперія брала участь у Першій світовій війні і паралельно по всій
країні формувався потужний робітничий рух. Робітники Брянського заводу були на
передовій революційних
процесів, проводили
мітинги та страйки. Звістку про початок війни вони зустріли вороже. У 1914-1915
рр. у місті
Катеринославі відбулися робітницьки демонстрації з антивоєнними гаслами. В
той самий час Брянський завод виготовляв товари для воєнних цілей.
У цій роботі
я звертаюся до методу роботи з книгами, який вже присутній в моїй практиці. Він заснований на повторенні образу того,
що я бачу в книзі. Тут я вирішила замінити ілюстрації з книги і, таким чином, звернути увагу
на факти, які свідомо упускаються в
книжковому та музейному висвітленні візиту імператора. Я розглядаю випадки
порушення техніки безпеки на виробництві, міліцейського насильства, мітингів
робітників. У вітрині, поруч з відсутньою книгою, розміщено фото книги з експозиції виставки, присвяченій Першій світовій війні, де музей
показав книгу в 2014 році, і підпис до нього з офіційною Facebook сторінки музею.
